Technical Description
A pair of Victorian intaglio cut glass decanters. The piece retains its original faceted disk stopper decorated with grapes and vines. A diamond cut neck ring above prism cut shoulders leads to the ovular body. This features a range of cutting including fields of diamonds and large star cuts. A facade of intaglio cut fruiting vines with pears and peaches. An octagonal base supports the piece and is finished with a star cut pontil.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time The Naval Defence Act (1889) dictated that the fleet strength of the Royal Navy must be equal to that of at least any two other countries.
