Technical Description
A cut and engraved 18th century glass sugarloaf decanter. A silver top above a facet cut neck. The body is engraved with fruiting vines, moths and Bacchus the Roman God of wine with moths on the reverse. Below is a band of vesica cutting. The base is finished with a broadly polished pontil. The piece retains its original stopper and the top, although not hallmarked, tests as silver.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time Parliament passed an Act permitting assay offices in Birmingham and Sheffield.
