Technical Description
A beautiful Victorian Intaglio Cut wine glass dating to c1880.
One of the most elegant examples we’ve seen produced by one of the leading companies in the technique. We have yet to pin down the research exactly however both Thomas Webb and Stevens & Williams have rich histories to pull from, whichever it is. The engraved areas are quite stunning incorporating rococo style C-scrolls, floral festoons and geometric cross-cut arches. Tiny notch cuts to the stem draw attention to the hollow blown tear, the stem has also been slice faceted in-line with the shape of the tear. Only the most skilled master-cutters would perform such work without snapping the glass in two.
An exceptional glass.
