Technical Description
A magnificent 19th-century glass claret jug in the form of a Greek Lkythios. It was made in Scotland in 1878 by Alexander Jenkinson at the Holyrood glass works and was displayed at the Paris Exhibition of that year. Made from lightweight muslin glass which in the correct light has a rainbow effect typical of muslin glass. It can be seen on page 151 of Goblets to Gaslights by the Scottish glass historian, Jill Turnbull.
