Technical Description 

A large Victorian water or Whisky carafe dating to the late 19th century.

It has a wide poring rim with slice cuts down the neck. Acid etched on the front are the words "John Haig & Co OLD MALT WHISKY". Large polished pontil.

Of Magnum proportions it will hold well over two bottles of whisky (or wine if that is preferred) or perhaps for its original use, water. Probably used in the board room, it is a superb example of late 19th century advertising for one of the great historic Scottish Whisky distillers who's Haig brand dates back to the 18th century and is still used today.

Condition

Excellent, no chips cracks or restoration, clean and clear with only minor residue at the base.

Historical Relevance 

Hand-blown around the time the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge began on the 3rd of January 1870.
