Technical Description
A superb pair of ale tumblers/beakers made in Germany in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Wide rims, the bowls engraved with a Baron's crowns and the initials AB. A solid base above small circular feet with polished pontils.

I can't recall coming across this form before and I suspect they were probably made to order as part of a suite of glass for 'AB'. To someone perhaps more used to looking at English forms, the feet seem oddly small, however, there are no signs of reduction or restoration and the very large sold base gives the glass the extra weight required for stability...so designed with this smaller foot in mind. Fascinating glasses...if only they could talk
