Technical Description
A full six-piece Art Nouveau Coffe Set by Bishop and Stoner dating to the late 19th century. Consisting of the coffee pot with original lid, milk jug, sugar bowl and six cups and saucers. All pieces fully marked depicting hand-painted flowers and leaves in green yellow and orange.
A stunning design and so rare to find the full set still together in superb condition.
In 1880, Powell, Bishop and Stoner registered a new trademark to accompany their ivory or cream-coloured earthenware. This shows a seated Chinaman under a sunshade or umbrella containing the words ORIENTAL IVORY - their name for the earthenware body. This oriental ivory body and their green bodied porcelain were ideal vehicles for Japanese inspired designs which were popular in the Victorian period. These often featured asymmetrical floral and bird designs.
