Technical Description

An 18th-century opaque twist ale glass. It has been engraved with hops on one side and barley in saltire on the other. Sits on a single series opaque twist stem consisting of a lace twist. Conical foot.

England, c1760. Period of George III.

Condition

Excellent, no chips cracks or restoration

Historical Interest

Hand-blown around the time The Treaty of Hubertusburg put an end to the Seven Years' War between Prussia and Austria, and their allies France and Russia.

This glass comes from the Michael Wallis collection which took over 45 years to build and contains over 250 drinking glasses, covering all forms from the 18th century, many exceptionally rare. They will all be presented by Exhibit over the coming weeks and months.
