Rare Multi Spiral Opaque Twist Wine Glass c1755

£290.00 $362.79 Product Code: 2023120504

Technical Description

A rare 18th century Multi Spiral Opaque Twist wine glass dating to c1755.

It has an ogee bowl with an engraved, cut and polished six petal rose. Also a flower sprig in the same style, on the reverse. Sits on a multi spiral opaque twist stem above a conical foot.

On the air twist form, a multi spiral stem is the most common, however with opaque twists, the opposite is true, and they are rare. What makes this glass a little more special is that it doesn’t have knops, which every other example of an MSOP which we have had, has, with the knop generally in the middle of the stem.  Also falls into the single series category. The engraved rose and sprig, may well have Jacobite sympathy connotations and it’s a very fine example.
