Technical Description
A superb 18th-century plain stem champagne or ale glass dating to c1740. It has a lipped drawn trumpet bowl and stem with a large central air tear at the top of the stem. Conical folded foot.

Historical Context
In America, the Plantation Act was passed in 1740 aimed at encouraging immigration into the Thirteen Colonies and also to regularize the naturalization procedures. It was at the battle of Cartagena de Indias, where they were called "Americans" for the very first time.
