Victorian Fern Engraved Wine Goblet c1880

Technical Description 

A fine 19th-century wine goblet dating to c1880. The pattern indicates that the glass was produced by the Holyrood glass company. It has a large round funnel bowl engraved with different forms of ferns. Plain stem above a conical foot.

An identical pattern can be seen in illustration 12.9 on page 147 of Jill's book, From Goblets to Gaslights.

Date & Origin 

Scotland, c1880. Period of Victoria.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips, cracks or restoration.

This piece comes from the Dr Jill Turnbull collection which was put together as part of Jill's research for her books, including 'From Goblets to Gaslights, The Scottish Glass Industry 1750-2006'. Exhibit will be presenting the collection for sale over the coming months.
