Exceptional Georgian Glass Toddy Lifter c1820

£120.00 $150.12 Product Code: MW2023021517

Technical Description

A Georgian glass toddy lifter dating to c1820. Facet cut neck ring with bands of prism cuts down the neck and slice cuts to the shoulders. The main body has a band of of tiny diamond and cross cut diamonds separated by further prism cuts. A very fine example.

A Toddy Lifter is used to transpose alcohol from a Serving Rummer or Punch Bowl held in the centre of the table into your glass. You place the toddy lifter into the liquid and let the reservoir at the base fill. Place you finger over the small hole at the top and move to the glass and release, emptying the contents into the glass.

This Toddy Lifter comes from the Michael Wallis Toddy Lifter collection put together over a 45 year period. To our knowledge, it is the largest and most comprehensive collection that exists with almost 80 different examples in size, cutting, knops and other decoration.
