Technical Description 

An 18th century plain stem ale glass dating to c1740. It has round funnel bowl engraved with flowers and leaves around the rim and with rib moulding to lower half. Plain stem above a conical folded foot. Engraving and moulding on a plain stem ale is rare.

Date & Origin 

England, c1740. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips or cracks, bowl rim has had a slight polish.

Historical Context

In 1742, Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, the lawyer and politician who became the last person to be impeached in the United Kingdom.
