Technical Description
A truly superb 19th century olive green wine glass. It has a ribbed ogee bowl above a large shoulder blade and ball knop stem. Conical foot with polished pontil.

Comments
The ribbed design can be seen in a number of different Richardson designs from this period as well as finger bowls and serving bottles, however, wine glasses in this form and are exceptionally rare and outside a set we sold a few years back we were unable to find any documented examples in our library or online. We have three different examples from the same collection, in three different colours of various sizes.
Historical Relevance
In 1840, Wagon Trains start the journey to California, Covered Wagon Trains took immigrants on a journey from Missouri River towns to what is now the state of California. The trip was about 2,000 miles and each night the Covered Wagon Train would form a circle for shelter from wind and extreme weather, they would put all the animals in the centre to prevent them from running away or being stolen.
