Technical Description
A superb 18th-century baluster wine glass dating to around 1730.
It has a bell bowl engraved with fruiting vine and a solid section at the base. Superb large five annulated shoulder knop above a large baluster knop. Conical foot.

Historical Context
James Bruce was born in 1730 near Airth, who went on to explore large parts of North Africa and Ethiopia and reached the source of the Blue Nile. Also in 1730, the birth in Greenock of the engineer and inventor James Watt, whose improvements to the steam engine are fundamental in bringing about the industrial revolution.
