Historical Relevance
Jacobites and their love of carnations are well documented. We have included a portrait of Louisa Maria Stuart from 1704, known to the Jacobites as Princess Royal, which hangs in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. It shows her large red and white carnation above her right breast with further carnations in her hair.
