Technical Description
Engraved 18th century Jacobite Sympathy facet cut wine glass. A large round funnel bowl engraved with a very fine carnation and bee. A fine hexagonal facet cut stem. The foot is conical with a rough pontil. The association of the Carnation to the Jacobite cause has been well explained and discussed previously and elsewhere. This large goblet example is particularly well engraved with the main flower, three Scottish thistle leaves, a closed carnation bud and the bee.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time of the outbreak of The Fourth Anglo-Dutch War 1780–1784.
