18th Century Jacobite Engraved Wine Glass c1745

£1,350.00 $1,749.60 Product Code: DM2024053004

Technical Description

A fine 18th century Jacobite wine glass dating to c1745. The glass has a large round funnel bowl above a plain stem, and conical foot.

The glass has a seven petal rose with a single closed bud on the sinister side. The vast majority of Jacobite roses have six petals but just every now and then you find a seven or an eight petal rose...both are rare and examples of both are shown in The Jacobites And Their Drinking Glasses by Geoffrey Seddon. It also has a large moth on the reverse. The rose style is pretty distinctive and you can find an example on plate 109.a identified as engraver B. You can also see the moth in the same style as the glass on plate 108.j by the same engraver.

A fine sized example over 4cm taller than you average plain stem from this period.
