Technical Description
A large 18th century cut glass sweetmeat. The lipped double ogee bowl features a notch cut rim above a band of cross cut diamonds and slice cutting, this rests upon a hexagonal facet cut stem with a swelling knop. A domed foot with further cutting and a rough pontil supports the piece. The cutting style is specific to Cork. A very rare piece.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time James Tytler became the first person in Britain to fly by ascending in a hot air balloon in Edinburgh 1784.
