Technical Description
A Jacobite engraved 18th century plain stem wine glass. The round funnel bowl is engraved with a rose, open bud, closed bud, oak leaf and a kissing star. This is supported by a plain stem. The piece rests upon a conical foot with a rough pontil. Engraver A (according to Seddon) is the most likely decorator of this piece.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time the Gin Act 1743 which attempted to increase taxation on gin provoked riots in London.
