Technical Description
A large ancient Roman glass jug made from translucent teal-blue hued glass and produced between 1 - 200 AD. Formed to have a collared rim with a folded and everted lip, leading to a broad neck and an olpe-shaped body. A matching strap handle is attached to the shoulder with three downward claws, drawn up and trailed to create a thumb rest that loops above the rim.
This form was rarely produced in glass and resembles bronze Roman olpe jugs which were based on earlier Greek terracotta examples. Scarce examples exist outwith museums.
