Technical Description
A truly breathtaking George IV glass rummer engraved for the Company Of Odd Fellows.
It was engraved for a Past Provincial Grand Master, William Hilton of the Wigan District in 1837.
A large bucket bowl with his name and PPGM 1837 on one side and a coat of arms with an hourglass, cross keys, beehive and paschal lamb in the four quadrants, on the other side. Above the coat of arms is an open hand with polished heart and a large polished all seeing eye. Either side we have the Madonna with child and Saint Clement. Surrounding the coat of arms are the words AMICITIA AMOR ET VERITAS (Friendship Love and Truth).
Ball knop stem above a conical oot with polished pontil.
A truly stunning and very personal glass, being the first Grand Master example we have seen.
