Technical Description 

A 19th century amethyst glass mell decanter. Mell form with a tapering neck and flared rim. The piece retains its original white metal ring pull stopper and features a polished pontil. 

Historical Relevance 

Hand-blown around the James Young patented a method of distilling paraffin from coal, laying the foundations for the Scottish paraffin industry.
