Technical Description 

An 18th century plain stem ale glass dating to c1740. It has elongated bell bowl engraved with a large hop, a sheaf of barley and a jay bird. Long plain stem above conical folded foot.

Unusual engraving and very unusual to see a Jay engraved on an Ale of this form. Also a good tall glass.

England, c1740. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown.

Historical Context

In 1742, Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, the lawyer and politician who became the last person to be impeached in the United Kingdom.
