Historical Relevance
The Ancient Order of Shepherds was established on Christmas day 1826 and served as a ‘sick and burial club’ for shepherds. The group members invested each month and would receive a sum to cover earnings lost due to illness or injury and burial expenses when required. The organisation exists to this day as an amalgamation of similar societies as a modern insurance provider.
