Technical Description
A 19th century green glass leech jar. The turned rim is used to accommodate a cloth lid tied with a string to contain the leeches. The base has a polished pontil. You normally find these bowls in clear glass and this is the first example we have seen in green. An exceptional piece.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time the first brine bath at Droitwich Spa opened in 1830.
