Technical Description 

An engraved double series air twist ale glass. The elongated round funnel bowl is engraved with hops and barley in saltire. This excellent stem features two pairs of corkscrews outwith an air cable. A conical foot with a rough pontil supports the piece. 

Date & Origin 

England, c1750. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear and one tooth mark in the rim as shown. 

Dimensions 

Height: 18.1cm Bowl diameter: 6.1cm Foot diameter: 7.9cm.

Historical Relevance 

Hand-blown around the time of the Battle of Arnee on the 3rd of December 1751. Robert Clive defeated a Franco-Indian force led by Raza Sahib. 

Comments

This glass comes from the Michael Wallis collection which took over 45 years to build and contains over 250 drinking glasses, covering all forms from the 18th century, many exceptionally rare. They will all be presented by Exhibit over the coming weeks and months.
