Technical Description 

A 19th century glass decanter dating to c1870-1900.

It has its orginal hollow spire stopper with crimping and is amber in colour with white opaque vertical ribs and circular foot

You can find examples on page 404 of The Decanter An Illustrated History Of Glass from 1650.

Italy, c1870-1900

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. The decanter has no chips cracks or restoration and is clean and clear. The stopper has a small section of the applied crimping missing.

Historical Context

Around this time, Benjamin Henry perfects the Henry rifle which was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company, and used in considerable numbers by certain Union army units in the American Civil War. Confederates called the Henry "that damned Yankee rifle that they load on Sunday and shoot all week!"
