Technical Description

An 18th-century opaque twist ale glass dating to 1760.

It has a long bell bowl above a double knop, double series opaque twist stem consisting of two pairs of spiral threads outside a gauze.

Double knop examples of opaque twist ale glasses are exceptionally rare and this is the only example we have had in well over 10 years. You often find double knops on wine glasses, however on opaque twist ale glasses, this feature is exceptionally rare.

This glass comes from the Michael Wallis collection which took over 45 years to build and contains over 250 drinking glasses, covering all forms from the 18th century, many exceptionally rare. They will all be presented by Exhibit over the coming weeks and months.
