Technical Description 

An antique 18th century balustroid wine glass. It has a round funnel bowl with pronounced rib moulding to the lower half. The rib moulding continues down through two large well defined knops and a basal knop. Conical folded foot.

A very unusual example and part of the Michael Wallis Collection.

England, c1740. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown.

Historical Relevance 

The King of Prussia, Frederick II, to be known as Frederick the Great, believes Austria is weak and sends troops to take possession of Silesia. Austria goes to war against Prussia. The War of Austrian Succession has begun.

This glass comes from the Michael Wallis collection which took over 45 years to build and contains over 250 drinking glasses, covering all forms from the 18th century, many exceptionally rare. They will all be presented by Exhibit over the coming weeks and months.
