Technical Description
A 19th century ebony quill box. The box has a sliding top which works beautifully. The ebony borders are inlaid with bone circlets, between the borders are porcupine quills.
Historical Relevance
Quill boxes were made in the second half of the 19th century in India and Sri Lanka. Rumor has it that Queen Victoria was gifted a box in the early years of their production.
