Large Royal Crown Derby 3237 Botanical Porcelain Part Dinner Service Carnation Pattern 1893

Technical Description 

A spectacular and very rare Royal Crown Derby part dinner service. The service is date marked to 1893 and carries an iron-red pattern number of 3237. This pattern is of particular interest to the collector, the floral sprays composition, use of carnations and extra styling of gilt is seldom seen in Royal Crown Derby porcelain. This pattern in part-service was last available via Christie's in 2004 with a single tureen documented between then and now. Remarkable condition and very functional pieces that can be set for a dinner party of modest size.

The set is decorated throughout with pink and yellow carnations, each flower is hand-painted and unique. The scrolled handles and finials are richly gilt with further gilded bands to the rims of each piece. Some extra gilded detail has been stippled around the outer lip drawing attention to the moulded relief detailing. The bowls and serving dishes have deep scallop edged wells, all of the plates having the aforementioned moulded detailing to the wide flat lips with a shaped wavy rim.

It is all in an unused condition with no gilding loss and no scratches. 

The set includes the very large turkey/roast platter (with a run-off well) as part of a graduated set of 3. 6 dessert bowls and 6 larger soup bowls, 11 dinner plates, a soup tureen with its matching plate stand and a pair of large, covered tureens.
