Technical Description
An exquisite 18th-century glass decanter. It has a Scappoed Disc ground stopper above a scale facet cut neck. Ring of flute cuts to the base with polished pontil.
You can see examples of these types of decanters on page 149 of 'The Decanter An Illustrated History of Glass from 1650' by Andy McConnell. Personally, I think his books are by far the best ever written on the subject, not just of decanters, but in many ways, glass in general.
Date & Origin
England, c1775
Condition
Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks or restoration. Minor residue at the base. The stopper is of the form and period expected and is the exact same colour, but it's a little loose and could be a period replacement from another decanter in the same original set.
