Comments
The Wear Flint Glass Company was best known for its production of the Lambton Glass Service which was made for the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry in 1825 and consisted of a collection of 158 pieces including; punch bowl, decanters, claret & water jugs, goblets, tumblers, honey jars, finger bowls, ice tubs, etc. Most items are engraved with the Londonderry coat of arms.
Below is a link to a few of the pieces which are held at the Sunderland Museum.
We cannot say for sure that this decanter is from that specific service but based on the cutting, proportions, and form, the decanter is almost certainly from the same company and era. Our thanks to Andy McConnell for helping in the identification of the decanter.
