Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips cracks. Some very minor residue at the base. One section of the rim has had a polish.

Technical Description 

An 18th century Nipt Diamond Waies sweetmeat glass with a cup bowl and hollow stem. The base of the bowl has a small hole that allows the juices to flow into the stem and prevents the sweetmeats from becoming soggy, Polished pontil to the base. An exceptionally rare piece.

A very fine example.

Historical Relevance 

Handmade around the time of Sir Robert Walpole’s administration. Pope Clement XII succeeds Pope Benedict XIII, as the 246th pope. Mahmud I (1730–1754) succeeds Ahmed III (1703–1730), as Ottoman Emperor.
