Technical Description 

A truly magnificent 19th century engraved glass claret jug. Made by Webb in around 1870, this is, without doubt, one of the best claret jugs we have ever offered. Very naturalistic, it has a rope twist applied handle with a pulled poring rim and very detailed flowers, leaves and ferns engraved down the neck and bowl. Star cut circular foot. 

You can find other examples of this style and workmanship on page 375 of 'The Decanter An Illustrated History of Glass from 1650 by Andy McConnell....and if you don't have his decanter book(s) then you need to buy a copy....its fantastic.

Historical Relevance 

Hand-blown around the time of Golf's 1st recorded hole-in-one, by Tom Morris at Prestwick's 8th hole.
