Technical Description
A truly superb set of four 19th century apple green wine glasses. They have ribbed ogee bowls above a large shoulder blade and ball knop stems. Conical feet with polished pontils.
Comments
The ribbed design can be seen in a number of different Richardson designs from this period as well as finger bowls and serving bottles, however, we have never come across a wine glass in this form and were unable to find any documented examples in our library or online. They come from the same collection as the recent apple green Richardsons decanter (now sold) and are of the same age and colour. We are confident you won't find another example on line.
We have 11 glasses in total and are selling as a set of six, a set of four and a single.
Historical Relevance
In 1840, Wagon Trains start the journey to California, Covered Wagon Trains took immigrants on a journey from Missouri River towns to what is now the state of California. The trip was about 2,000 miles and each night the Covered Wagon Train would form a circle for shelter from wind and extreme weather, they would put all the animals in the centre to prevent them from running away or being stolen by Native Americans.
