Technical Description
A tall early 19th-century frame square decanter. It has its original ball knopped, cut, mushroom stopper. A slice cut collar descends to the shoulder. Two plain sections separated by three fine cut bands. The shoulder band exhibits cut diamonds, the central band shows small vertical v-grooves, the lower band shows larger v-grooves. Large polished pontil to base.

As a general rule, in the world of antiques, the word "rare" means nothing these days... it's applied all the time to even the most mundane common antiques and thus, unfortunately, we have all switched off from the significance of the word itself. So instead of saying that this decanter is rare, I would instead say take another look at it. You will almost certainly have never seen another example of this decanter...anywhere...I certainly haven't...and even master Andy McConnell, who in my opinion has produced two of the best glass decanter books ever written... doesn't show an example.
So...is it rare...you bet your life it is.
What it needs is a good 25-year-old Lagavulin Single Malt Whisky to make it shine.
