Technical Description
19th century cased glass decanter. A tapering neck with two applied neck rings. The body is engraved to clear with a foliate band above moulded fluting. The base is moulded and has a rough pontil. A radial moulded mushroom stopper tops the piece off.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time Alessandro Volta reported his discovery of the electric battery in a letter to Joseph Banks, president of the Royal Society of London.
