Technical Description 

A magnificent 18th-century glass tazza with a double folded gallery. It sits upon an eight-sided pedestal stem with a large long central air tear which extends down into the lower support collars. A large domed and folded foot.

This is an outstanding example both in quality and size. The condition is superb and (as far as I can remember) it's one of the largest I've had the pleasure of holding. This would be the base tazza for a stack of three or more. Excellent addition to any drinking glass collection as it will provide elegance and height when displaying glass in a cabinet. 

Around 12 years ago, I visited Fairfax House in York, England, which had at that time a superb exhibition of 18th-century glass on show. If I remember correctly it was a local collector, petrochemical engineer? who collected 18th-century glass over many years and had given talks and lectures on the subject at Fairfax. He had died and I think he had left the glass to Fairfax House. As part of this collection, they had several large tree stacks of Tazza's with all the jelly and sweetmeats filled with lifelike exotic spices, fruits jellies and nuts....it looked absolutely stunning and it is to this day the best 'display' of 18th-century glass I have seen....not necessarily for the glass itself but for the way they presented it.  A great place to visit but I'm not sure if they still have the glass and if it's on display. 

"Glass in 18th century England the footed salver" by Kelsall is by far the best book I have read on the subject.
