Technical Description
A rare blue Lauenstein wine glass. The round funnel bowl with a characteristic chamfered edge rests upon a knopped stem. The piece is supported by a conical foot with a polished pontil. The Lowen mark is engraved on the pontil of the glass. We have had many 100's of Lauenstein glasses over the years, however, this is the very first coloured example we have had...or seen...outside the Lauensteiner Glass book (see references below). An exceptionally rare example.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown during the reign of Francis II, the last Holy Roman Emperor due to its dissolution in 1806 as a result of Napoleon’s victory over Austria at the Battle of Austerlitz on 2 December 1805.
